The second property sheet of the envelopes and labels tool is the labels property sheet. To access the labels property sheet:
1. Open the tools menu
2. Press enter on envelopes and labels
3 Press alt + l to access the labels property sheet.
If you had an address selected within the document of Microsoft Word, it will be placed into the edit field of the labels dialog. You may only print one address on a label. Microsoft Word does not print return addresses on labels.
The first thing you will need to do is configure the label options of Word. To do this, enter the options dialog through the use of the options button. Within the options dialog is a list box which will allow you to select the label type you are using. By default, Microsoft Word assumes you are using Avery labels. If you are using a different brand of label, use the tab key to locate the label products combo box and use the up and down arrow key to select the proper brand name. I suggest purchasing 81/2 x 11 sheets of labels. Avery is the most well known brand. They vary in size, so you will need to pick one that best suits your needs. Within the list box will be a series of numbers which correspond to the numbers on the front of the label package. Use the up and down skeys to select the appropriate number. You may also press the first number to access that section of the listing. With the label options selected, tab to the OK button and press the spacebar. You are now ready to print your labels. You have a choice of printing a single label, a full sheet of the same label, or setting up a document with a number of different labels which can be saved or printed as you desire. If you have a Christmas list to whom you sent cards every year, you may wish to create label sheets which can be printed. I will explain the process for accomplishing all of these tasks.
Printing a full page of the same label:
With the address inserted into the edit field, use the tab key to locate the radio buttons which give the choices of printing a full page of the same label or a single label. Select the same label option, place the label sheet into your printer and press the enter key to print a full page of the same label.
Printing a single label:
With the address inserted into the edit field, use the tab key to locate the radio buttons which give the choices of printing a full page of the same label or a single label. Select the single label option. By pressing the down arrow key. With this option selected, two combo-edit fields become available.
1. Row - insert the number which corresponds to the row of the label which
is to be printed (rows span the sheet horizontally)
2. Column - insert the number which corresponds to the column of the label which is to be printed. (columns span the sheet vertically) When the column and row have been inserted, place the label sheet into the printer and press the enter key.
Printing a label document:
Label documents may be printed and saved for future use. This can work especially well for Christmas card lists, customer lists and more. In order to print a label document, select the new document button within the label dialog and press the spacebar. A new document will be opened which will have a table into which addresses may be placed. Insert the first address and press the tab key once. Each touch of the tab key will move the focus to the next label. You may press the enter key when inserting the addresses. Be sure to keep track of how many labels you have entered, remember, you cannot print more labels than are allowed on your label sheet. If you only have twelve labels on your label sheet, be sure to only place twelve addresses into the document. With all the addresses entered, you may place the label sheet into the printer and print the document as usual. You may also save this document to your hard drive for future use.
